My End-Of-The-World Weapon

1 Attachment(s)
The 7.5" barreled Ruger SRH454Casull. The closest thing to a rifle that can be concealed in a shoulder holster when TSHTF. Major Major recoil with full power hunting stuff such as Hornady's 240-grain 2000 feet per second load. Like as in the palm of my hand very much hurting after two shots. OK for deer hunting because you aren't going to get more than two shots off anyway. Revolvers accept the widest range of handloads. So I handload lead cartridges down to 1400fps for hunting loads and 1000fps for target shooting/defense. Got a bullet mold for when the politicians cut off the ammo supply with 500 cases/5000 primers kept in reserve. It will also shoot common 45Colt ammo available everywhere. Made of gray stainless steel for non-reflective corrosion resistance. My end-of-the-world weapon...

Best thing is that one can shoot .45 long colt when one wishes to "plink".....:D

Though Corbon makes a 300-grain .45 lc that is right up there with the .454.

Someone considering that kind of platform might also want to look at S&W's 460XVR. Only 5 shots, but it fires the faster and more powerful .460 Mag round (in addition to .454 Casull and .45 LC), and comes with barrels from 2.75" to 12". If only it would also handle .410 shotshells... but at least the available .45 LC birdshot provides some of the functionality.

Nice revolver! I've got the Ruger SRH in 480 Ruger topped with a Leupold scope.

I considered getting a S&W 460XVR, but didn't so for several reasons. It's heavier, fewer shots, much more expensive, and S&W is already running a recall on some 460 models for premature barrel burnout. And while S&Ws typically have better feeling triggers, they tend to loosen up more over time. I'd hate to need to take it to a gunsmith if the government's policy on private handgun ownership ever went south. Imagine secretly owning one in Canada and needing to have the lockwork tightened up. Where could you take it to have it tightened without fearing arrest? So I picked Ruger because I wanted a gun that would never need gunsmithing. Not to dis S&W because I'm planning to get an S&W J-frame soon for concealed carry, but in my gut I trust Ruger the most. Many ammo manufacturers sell stuff sold as "Ruger only" loads, a significant affirmation of Ruger's "built like a tank" reputation.
